Beware of AI Deceptions
In today’s fast-paced world, things are moving quicker than ever before. Everyday tasks are increasingly being handled by AI, which stands for Artificial Intelligence. Take a moment to consider the meaning of “Artificial” and “Intelligence.” While I must admit that amusing caricatures of friends and family on Facebook have been entertaining, I believe the underlying message is being overlooked. Someone can simply type “create a caricature based on what you know about me” into ChatGPT, hit enter, and voilà – an image is generated using that information. Doesn’t that strike you as creepy and concerning?
Another area of concern with AI is writing. With just a few ideas about what you want to write and some personal details, you can click enter and instantly receive a grammatically correct piece that is sure to catch eyes and impress readers. What does this mean for those who genuinely craft stories, like C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling, or James Patterson? For those of us who cherish the art of writing, it feels like a disservice. AI has enabled even those with minimal writing skills to appear as if they are literary geniuses. If you’re curious about whether a piece of writing was generated by AI, explore some methods to identify them, you might be quite surprised by what you discover.
There are a multitude of articles written on the subject.
Here’s something else to consider in the news today featured discussions about AI classrooms with no teachers. Seriously? If that doesn’t raise alarm bells for you, then you might need to reassess your perspective. I could list numerous issues with this trend! Why are we becoming a society that shies away from using our brains, our God-given talents, and our ability to connect with others? Has COVID had such a profound impact on us that we struggle to embrace our true selves?
I could delve into the detrimental effects of data centers on nature, but I’ll save that for another article. If you’re unfamiliar with data centers, take this chance to leverage technology and Google what they are and their functions.
We are living in a world where technology is on the verge of taking over our lives, and in many cases, it already has. When individuals cannot distinguish between what is real and what is fabricated, we face a significant dilemma. Wake up, people! While I acknowledge that I rely on technology as well, we must learn where to draw the line. Let’s reconnect with nature and the gifts God has given us instead of becoming overly dependent.
