Smyth County Commissioner of the Revenue Earns Statewide Re Accreditation for 2026

Commissioner of the Revenue accreditation is presented and monitored by the Virginia Commissioner of the Revenue Association.

The Smyth County Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office has once again secured statewide accreditation, earning re accreditation for 2026 from the Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia (CRAV). The designation recognizes local offices that meet strict professional, administrative, and operational standards across taxpayer services, assessment practices, and records management.

The achievement marks the second consecutive accreditation under Commissioner Bradley Powers, who took office in 2024. When Powers assumed the role, he discovered that the office had not been accredited since the 2021 cycle. His administration regained accreditation for 2025 during his first year in office and has now maintained that standing for 2026.

In the official accreditation letter, T. Scot Harris, Chair of CRAV’s Career Development Program Committee, praised the Smyth County office for meeting the organization’s rigorous benchmarks. Harris noted that accreditation is awarded only to offices that demonstrate full compliance with statewide standards and commended the staff’s “commitment to excellence.”

Powers said the recognition reflects the dedication of the entire office.

“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of my staff,” he said. “This re accreditation reflects our shared commitment to excellence, accountability, and professional service to the citizens of our community. From day one, my goal has been to ensure this office meets and maintains the highest standards, not just for accreditation, but for the people we serve every day.”

He emphasized that accreditation is not a one time accomplishment but an ongoing responsibility. “I am committed to continuous improvement and ensuring our office remains accredited, efficient, and responsive well into the future,” Powers said.

The Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office serves as one of Smyth County’s primary tax administration agencies, responsible for maintaining accurate assessments, assisting taxpayers, and ensuring transparency in local revenue processes. Powers said the office will continue prioritizing professional standards recognized across the Commonwealth.
