I cannot believe after discussion on the equipment of the Dante Fire Department by the board of supervisors that the equipment was left in the Fire Hall. So, the department members go get their stuff and equipment because the hall was to be torn down. So, the fire fighters just trying to protect the equipment, do the job of the county and protect the equipment. Then the county takes them to court to get the equipment and all their materials back?
Where was the open supervisor meeting vote to tell the county to go to court to get the equipment back. May be the country does have a problem with Kings because it sure feels like we have one in Russell County. So, the county gets an injunction to get the equipment back and they hire a towing service to tow the trucks and equipment to a new location. Ok, money was spent to hire the towing company, where was the open supervisor meeting and vote to hire the towing company? Could county employees not drive a truck???
The argument submitted to the court talks about restraining Daniel Meade, a private citizen. What kind of argument is this? We have free speech or do we not? I am really confused as to how you can restrain a citizen from commenting on government? Do we live in the SSR of Russell County? This sounds like pure communism right here in Southwest Virginia.
I have been supportive of many of the supervisors, but you guys are losing me on this one. Why will you not at least speak up about the injustice of all this. At the last meeting they brought up the fact that they lost their incorporation status or their 501c 3 status. Back in what was it like in 2015? Then the supervisors act like we have no choice in this situation. That is bull! You voted since then to give the fire department money every year. The county used them to make calls every year until Dollar General came calling. This was just a push to get that store in Dante this had nothing to do with corporation status or trained members this had to do with getting that store in the county. I have a question why was it so important for the county to do business with Dollar General? Who benefited? Where was the push coming from.
Supervisors, you can spin this anyway you want but you are going to have to answer to the people on this deal. You do not want to look crooked, but you are looking crooked as a barrel of fishhooks. Supervisor can hire the best lawyers around; they can hire the best lawyers with political pull, and you can win the case but you still have to answer these questions to the people. There is no escape from what has been done. The question for the supervisors is why has this happened? When are you going to take a vote? When are you going to discuss this?
No matter what happens the supervisors really screwed up on this deal, and I hope they pay for it at the polls on election day. Promises made promises not kept!
