Daniel Meade operates the Facebook page SWVA Patriots. Some have labeled him as a troublemaker simply by sharing information about the local governments that most would not know, before Daniel started shedding some light on many things going on in the government on his Facebook site.

Daniel should be considered the Elon Musk of Russell County Government, and he was doing it long before Elon came on the scene. County Administrator Lonzo Lester has shown his disdain for the Facebook page. And Supervisor Nate Kiser and Republican Party Chairman Phillip Addington have voiced their concern for Facebook in regular meetings of The Russell County Board of Supervisor’s meetings.

The fact of the matter is Daniel is a true hero for the transparency he is providing, and trying, with much resistance, to provide the public. Those complaining about Facebook should take notice that it is never a bad thing to expose every aspect of local government. I have observed that many complaining about Facebook use it to their advantage and only have a problem if it is something they did not want shared.

Daniel is a hero on another regard. The blow back he has faced has caused him to be sued. He has faced a terrible time trying to get government documents and answers to questions only to hit a brick wall. In many of these cases on attempting to get information, he legally had the right to the information but was still stymied. He has also faced lawfare as he has been investigated simply by trying to expose the truth. This makes Daniel a true hero because most people could not have withstood the storms he has faced and continued doing what he is doing.

We can only hope Daniel continues doing what he is doing and more people will step up and weather the storm and expose all local governments in the region. Sometimes it is not about exposing anything it is just about sharing the information the public would not otherwise have known.
