It is clear that there is no representative government in Washington County. When all seven supervisors vote to raise taxes after hundreds of citizens asked them not to do that. If I were to take a guess I would say 80% or much higher do not want the Russell County Board of Supervisors to raise taxes. True representative government is for elected leaders to carry the will of the people that elected them into their respective offices. In all most every county in SWVA we do not have representative government even though that was what the country was founded on. The people in Russell County want the tax and spend government to stop. Yes, cuts will have to be made but that is what the people are calling on the board to do. We have to get back to all elected leaders to be representatives of their voters and stop putting government above those that voted for them. Most boards in the area have failed to do this. The question is will the board wake up this time and listen to the citizens instead of personal or government leaders opinions?
