Dr. Matney sent a FOIA request to Lonzo Lester asking how the COVID money from the Federal Government was spent. Mr. Lester responded with a 9-page list of who got the COVID money which you can click on below and read. Three County News has no way to verify if the information is complete.
The first point in looking at the least is that there was nothing illegal about getting the COVID money. Well, nothing that Three County News knows about. Russell County Board of Supervisor Chairman Steve Eaton received money and can be seen several times in the list. One part about the list that is disappointing for Russell County is that some of the businesses that took COVID money went out of business anyway. The money was supposed to help them hold on and disappointing for the county tax intake that they did not survive.
