Opinion

Shout out to Nate Kiser and Andrew Hensley especially for asking good questions. It appears Russell County has something that other counties in the area mostly do not have and that is a School Superintendent and School Board willing to make cuts for what they are asking instead of just holding out their hands. Things are slowly getting better but I have one big question why we can get no answers on extra revenue that has been saved in the past? The county administrator seems he wants to keep the public and the supervisors in the dark. If he has millions in reserve can some of that money be moved over to allow them not to raise taxes. And departments usually do not use all their budgeted money so how much does he estimate carry over revenue to be? This would also help offset a tax increase. The rate published not to raise taxes is 47.4 cents. The board will meet again at 6 pm this coming Tuesday night and I assume will set the rate at that time.
