Importance of Voting

Overlooked Hidden Costs in the Amendment!

This year, Virginia residents will possibly have the opportunity to vote three times, and each election is incredibly important! Taking a few minutes to cast your vote is all it takes. Embrace your civic responsibility and ensure your voice is heard!

On April 21, 2026, there is a high possibility there will be a special election featuring a Proposed Constitutional Amendment. Although Judge Jack S. Hurley from the Tazewell County Circuit Court in January ruled it invalid due to the filing timeframe, it remains categorized as a special election. This week, Judge Hurley issued an injunction following the state Supreme Court’s approval of the referendum on February 13, 2026. Judge Hurley remains firm in his stance, which is vital for Virginia. As of this evening, February 20, 2026, Attorney General Jay Jones filed a petition asking the Virginia Supreme Court to overturn the injunction blocking the redistricting amendment referendum. It is pertinent that we stay on top of this situation that is unfolding daily!

You might be curious about the details of this amendment or perhaps think it’s irrelevant. Let’s delve into the significance of this amendment. Here is the Ballot Question as listed on the Virginia Department of Elections page.

“Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”

Currently, there is no clear explanation for voters, so let’s analyze it ourselves. The proposed amendment aims to redraw the state’s district lines, giving the Democrats a significant 10-to-1 advantage. Furthermore, it designates over $5 million for various election-related costs.

“Out of this appropriation, $5,000,000 the second year from the general fund shall be provided to the Department of Elections for the costs associated with the April 21, 2026, special election. Unless otherwise prohibited by law, the funding may be used for voter education, administrative costs of the Department, grant funding to localities to defray the costs of absentee voting in-person, and other costs associated with the April 21, 2026, special election.”

Is this for real? Spending $5 million to advance a special election that many people might not even take part in, all to draw lines that favor the Democratic party? I could provide an extensive list of more beneficial ways to allocate that money for the residents rather than promoting their agenda. Virginians need to take notice. Regardless of whether you identify as a Republican or a Democrat this situation is outrageous and a complete misuse of funds!

Please note that the Democrats have chosen the phrase “restore fairness in upcoming elections.” However, there is nothing equitable about voting in favor of this amendment. We must vote NO!

We must take action instead of passively watching events unfold. Make your voice count through your vote! Speak up and inform others about what’s happening in our state. While we may face challenges, this should only strengthen our resolve to unite and fight with even greater determination!
