If you want to see the bureaucracy swallow up your tax dollars look no further than the Washington County School Board Offices. Three County News requested all the salaries of only the people in the school board office. The total number of employees was around 78. That is 78 employees in the school board office and this paper wants to know why. Most of the school districts operate on many less than Washington County. You, the taxpayer, have the right to ask why this is going on. In many counties one director covers many positions but not in Washington County.
In Washington County Virginia the taxpayer must pay $5,072,912.52 before you even get down to the people teaching the children. That is over 5 million for the office on the hill. It is clear you do not have a superintendent looking to downsize government to help the citizens. This is astronomical but you, the taxpayer, must make the call on what you want to happen at your schools. When the schools want more money from the Washington County Board of Supervisors all they have to do is ask. And the wish is granted. Here at Three County News we just report what is happening many will be ok with this but many will not. You have a right to know how your money is being spent in the county.
