City Councilman Jake Holmes shared an update on Facebook about the Bristol City Budget Discussions. Below are Jake’s comment:
“Last night, council kicked off budget season by hearing a presentation from city staff on all the budget requests, as well as presentations by outside agencies seeking city funding.
As a city, there’s a lot we are legally required to do by state and federal law, a lot we do because our community needs it, and a lot we’d like to do if we can fund it. It’s always a balancing act between the needs of our citizens and the impact it has on their pocketbooks. The money the city spends is from the taxpayers in our community and from state and federal funds (also from taxpayers).
As council members we submit requests to city staff for the budget and the photos show the bulk of our requests. Obviously, the budget includes many more things, but these items we felt needed special attention. Common themes of public safety, public street and sidewalk repair, and lowering taxes were submitted, so I’m hopeful we can make progress on all three areas this year.
At every regular council meeting during this process we will have public comments, so please come out and join in this important conversation. City government is not an easy process and it takes all of us to get the job done.”
We want to thank Jake for keeping the citizens updated.
