During a recent public meeting a Washington County Supervisor stated that “yes we have to raise your taxes this time.” The reason given is expenses and payouts go up. There is no fiscal restraint when it comes to spending the tax dollars. They have nearly 30 million in reserves. My problem is they continually think about County Government and not you the taxpayer. According to Virginia Code § 58.1-3321 they have to share with the public the number calculated to set the tax rate as to not raise your taxes. The number will come in maybe 40 cents who knows but stay on top of what that number is. Any number higher than the published rate is a tax increase on the citizens of Washington County. Call your supervisors and tell them no tax increase.
